Event Details

Celebrate women through music, film, discussions and art inspired by our upcoming Judithe Hernández exhibition, marking the first solo exhibition of a Chicanx artist at MOLAA.

The evening will include:

- A performance by Alice Bag, a pioneering punk Chicanx singer & songwriter creating the first wave of punk in Los Angeles. Chulita Vinyl Club an all-female vinyl collective will DJ the evening.
A performance by ELLA, a post-punk band out of Los Angeles spreading awareness and combating social injustices through ARTivism.

- Live art installations by female artists’ part of Grab Bag Studio o an art space and pop-up concept based in Long Beach, CA. Their program draws directly from the local community of artists by developing projects through exchange and offering exhibitions, workshops, performances and more. Grab Bag Studio encourages experimentation and process-based art-making that is responsive to our social and urban environment. In this regard, GBS is a community art project among and between the artists and the local community.

- Ovarian Psycos - Documentary directed by Kate Trumbull-LaValle & Johanna Sokolowski, a documentary about a new generation of fierce, unapologetic and feminist women of color from the Eastside of Los Angeles who confront injustice, build community, and redefine identity through a raucous, irreverently named bicycle crew: The Ovarian Psycos Cycle Brigade. Stick around after the film for a Q & A with some of the ladies from the film.

- Mujeres De Maiz (Women of the Corn) will be holding a space filled with dialogue aiming to bring together and empower diverse women. As an inter-cultural, intergenerational and interdisciplinary collective they have made that space from the stage to the page, the gallery to the streets, and ceremony and wellness world for women of color by sharing their own specific blend of mind, body, spirit and cultural work.

The night will also include a female craft vendors, food for purchase, photobooth and a cash bar.
