Spend the morning sketching outside at the beach. Beginners intro to plein air watercolor .Includes demo, light refreshments.
Event Details
This 3-hour event will focus on plein air painting for beginners to the genre, with plenty of instruction and demos. This event is open to all abilities from beginners to advanced artists, as well.
Led by plein air watercolor artist & instructor Anne Kupillas, this event will meet at the public beach adjacent to Rosie's Dog Beach in Long Beach, CA. Under the shade of a pop tent, Anne will show you her set up and discuss how to approach a watercolor painting outside "en plein air." Anne will illustrate composition with thumbnail sketches, discuss the particular challenges of do a demo, and answer individual questions. With Anne's guidance, artists will have a few hours to sketch the beautiful ocean view - including the beach, Belmont Pier, palm trees, boats, container ships, and of course the ocean -- all of which are just asking to be painted!
Anne will give tips on how to compose an oceanscape, with clear foreground, middle and backgrounds. She will also offer advice on how to capture water in motion, that sparkle on the waves, and how to add signs of life and community to your sketch.
